Victorian Model Railway Society Inc. |
Railway interest groups within the original V.M.R.S. diversified during 40's and historical, live steam and other groups came into existence while the V.M.R.S. continued in the model railway field.
The V.M.R.S.'s meeting rooms were granted to the society in the 50's when they contributed to an exhibition held by the Victorian Railways to mark its centenary.
This exhibition, held in the Lower Melbourne Town Hall, consisted of a Cavalcade of Trains, representing the railways in Victoria over the years. The models were built to O scale (1/4" = 1 foot) and used stud contact for electrical pick up. The first train was a replica of the first real train to run in the state, the Hobson's Bay Company's 2-2-2 loco and accompanying cars. One of the last was a suburban electric set based on the proposals for what became the Harris trains.
