This was the mail I received on 14th/Jan/1998 while in KL7

BIG NEWS FROM PY5CC! 14/Jan/98 at 2150z I work LU1ZC in Deception Island in Antarctica on 50.105 SSB. We had a very nice Es opening starting around 2000z with CX stations and than with LU stations in Buenos Aires area. At 2138z I  Work LU9AEA/X in Patagonia Area, FE60 Grid (San Julian city). He was Mobil with S9+ signal. I find LU1ZC, Hector on the Cluster working stations on 20 meters in 14.178 MHZ and we try on 6 M. His signal was 51 to 52 , and he gave me 59. Hector say he was working with a wire antenna but will put up a directional. He will be on Deception island until end of February 1998. What a pleasure to work a new Country, new Field, and new Continent. I think his Locator is FC97 according to the co-ordinates that I find in my World Atlas. ( 62,57s  60,38w ) Anybody know any contact before with Antarctica ? Best regards and good Luck with LU1ZC......PETER   PY5CC
