Veterans Wives Group |
Sue's storyWith Anzac Day approaching, I would like to express my feelings as the wife of a Vietnam Veteran. To those people of my generation, and older, who look upon the Vietnam War as something to be ashamed of, one of which we should never have been involved in. I hope they now look upon our soldiers with pride and admiration. They trained hard, fought valiantly and won battles, which never seem to be acknowledged. They went through and endured horrific times. They came home to hatred towards them, were spat upon, and for many years, put down for their involvement in a war they were sent to. They saved our country with dignity. Their mateship was such that they looked out for each other while in battle and still do to this day. My husband passed away on 28th November 2002 at the age of 57, like so many Vietnam Veterans, who sadly die and leave their wives and children, when they should have many years still to live. Love for, and pride in my husband Alex, will never end, just as the wives and families of those lost and those still with us. My hope is that all Australians will feel this pride in our Vietnam Veterans as they show towards other men and women who have served our country in the past, present and future. Suzanne B |
