Newsletter on the Net - No. 5 - 8 January 2003Happy New Year to everyone, hope it is exciting and full of great things to do and see! Thirteen ladies again at our get together for January. Everyone was kept busy over Christmas, visiting or being visited to celebrate the season. What a wonderful time of the year! Then we have had New Year as well of course, we all agreed that as 2003 has the lucky number three in it means it will be a very lucky year. Hoping to get a new look to our web this year with our rose & hand, and a bit of colour as well. Tim works very hard for us, thanks Tim. We need to get more stories on our web page and also set up a new page for our widows to gain important information from. As we have now sadly increased our number recently to five in our group, we realise the need for support is there in the community. This need is there during any illness our guys have as well, and we all know that when someone is in hospital, having support is a big help, even if is just a phone call or a coffee and chat. I felt like a 'school marm' (no offence intended to any teachers) asking everyone to do homework and hand in stories to me ASAP, to add to our page to make it interesting and share our thoughts with others. It is amazing how these small notes are able to touch others who have 'been there' and help them to realise that there are others who are able to understand. Sometimes that is all we need, just to know someone else is in the same boat! We have made contact with a wives group in NSW, called Partners of Veterans Association of Australia Inc. Six of us are in the process of joining them, as we can share our details and support each other. It is another way to increase community knowledge as well. Our trip away was discussed and we decided to return to Daylesford as it was a great weekend in 2001, so Agnes is going to ring and book for October. (This has now been done and the date to mark in your calender is 9th, 10th October 2003.) We will pay in three instalments at meetings in March, June and September, so it will give the girls a chance to budget. This will mean it is all paid for and if a person needs to drop out, they will need to find a replacement to take their place. There are only twelve places, so we will set up a waiting list if our numbers are more than that. We are also looking at massage/spas and will organise them for anyone as well. Will keep everyone posted. Maybe we can see if there are any wives down that way we can meet up with. The evening was very relaxed. I will have more name tags made up, as we are running out. That is good as I originally made up 40. I will also have more of our cards with our web address and e mails on them made up, to give out as well. They have been distributed in Canberra, Perth, Mackay, Brisbane and everywhere around Melbourne, so the news is getting out. Hope to see you at our next get together, and we always welcome new faces. Keep well and smile! Sylvia |
