Veterans Wives Group |

Newsletter on the Net - No. 28 – February 2005A group of 10 of our ladies, held an informal afternoon tea, at Agnes’ house late February. This was an opportunity to discuss and finetune our Veterans’ wife group. It was such a good day, that we hope to repeat the afternoon on a three monthly basis. Most of the girls find that on our normal Wednesday evening’s, it is hard to have a general conversation. A lot was discussed and some really good ideas were put forward including a craft day. This will be both an opportunity to finish of those UFO’s (Unfinished objects) and to learn new crafts. Most importantly another opportunity for further contact and communication amongst all of our girls. A buddy system is also to be established in the coming weeks. Thankyou to Agnes, for the endless cups of coffee and tea, and to Sylvia who organised us all. We finally wound up around 5-30 and then re-convened at Ringwood RSL for our usual monthly dinner at Ringwood. Big thankyou to Larraine and Helen who attended on behalf of Veterans Wives Group Ringwood, the quarterly meeting of Partners of Veterans Association of Australia, at the Noble Park RSL, on Sunday 13th February. Remember to keep up your PVA membership, as it is important we stand together, to deal with the many issues being dealt with in Canberra, by this strong group of ladies. We must continue to support them in this, as it is, after all our struggle! We also have a group that meets on the last Monday of every month at 12noon, for those who find it easier to get there, during the day. We still meet in the Bistro of the Ringwood RSL. They have a great meal deal you can avail yourself of. This is not a ‘breakaway’ group, it is for the convenience of all of our ladies. After a successful luncheon at the Frankston RSL. last year with the girls from that area, we have booked a table at the Dandenong RSL for a return lunch on Wednesday the 9th March. At midday. Wives/partners, from all areas, are very welcome to come along and renew friendships. Not all events or meetings need to be formal – just a laugh and a talk makes you feel so much better. We all have down days, if you know of someone in our group who needs that extra hug, please don’t hesitate in picking up the phone and making contact with them. We all need to know that someone is thinking of us. As most of you know, the Outer Eastern Sub-branch of the Vietnam Veterans’ Association assists the local Council each year at the Knox Festival. This annual event is to be held on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 5th & 6th March. Hope to see you all there. The Aussie Veteran’s Opportunity Shop at 5 Erica Avenue, Boronia has been in operation since November 2001. The shop has had a major impact on the local community in providing cost effective clothing, furniture, white goods, bric a brac and a wide range of books and electrical gear. Most days are fun filled and some volunteers tell us openly that a day working in the shop is a major tonic in their lives. The shop operates between 10.00am and 4.00 pm Monday to Friday and 10.00 am to 2.00 pm Saturdays. Best wishes and regards Sue Stancombe Newsletter archivesClick here for recent newsletters. |
