Veterans Wives Group |

Newsletter on the Net - No. 25 – October 2004Are you the wife/widow/divorcee/separated or partner of a Vietnam Veteran or Veteran from any other conflict or Peacekeeping operation? Do you sometimes feel alone? Would you like the opportunity to meet others who ‘have been there’? There is no formal structure & it belongs to no particular Veteran group, ie. Any specific Vietnam Veteran group, RSL, VVCS, etc., so it is generic! No need to let anyone know if you are attending, just be there! This group believes that we need to be there for each other, so its primary function is as a support group. The men are very welcome to come along and be introduced to other Veterans in the member’s lounge. We are here to help each other. Visitors are always welcome; the atmosphere is friendly, as everyone will make sure that you feel welcome and comfortable. We meet in the Bistro area of the Ringwood RSL on the second Wednesday of each month around 6pm onwards. You can have a meal there if you wish, or just sit and chat. Perhaps a glass of wine, or coffee /tea with us. Stay for as long as you like. Come along and just enjoy being with a group that understands
you. The RSL staff will direct you to
us. September Gathering: Welcome to Dianne, we offer a warm welcome to you to our group. Although it was a typically winter night in Melbourne quite a few girls attended the RSL with 6 apologies. By now we have been and had our R&R down at the Rye Units. The time doesn’t always suit everyone. There were different tenants over the week, with some girls staying all week while others were able to spend a few nights. Lots of retail therapy was done, including a visit and a look at the local jewellery store. Checking out the different eating venues was also a highlight. I believe some of the girls also paid a visit to the local hairdresser’s and changed their look. A Barbie was enjoyed on the Sunday night with some of the hubbies joining the girls. The annual Glen Cromie event at Drouin, is due on the weekend of 13/14th November. This is always promised a good weekend away. Hopefully you can make it down to the Gippsland area. If you can spare some time for your local RSL please offer your time in support of the annual “Remembrance Day” badges appeal. Our thoughts and best wishes to one of our dear friends Pat Burn, who is not all that well at the moment. Speedy recovery to you Pat, we are all thinking of you. Congratulations to Sylvia and Ron, who have become Grandparents again. Final notesFor the girls who are unable
to make the second
Wednesday of the month evening, don’t forget the other option is to come
along and meet us in the RSL Bistro on the last Monday of the month. We meet
around noon, stay for as long as you wish.
