Veterans Wives Group |

Newsletter on the Net - No. 24 – September 2004Are you the wife/widow/divorcee/separated or partner of a Vietnam Veteran or Veteran from any other conflict or Peacekeeping operation? Do you sometimes feel alone? Would you like the opportunity to meet others who ‘have been there’? There is no formal structure & it belongs to no particular Veteran group, ie. Any specific Vietnam Veteran group, RSL, VVCS, etc., so it is generic! No need to let anyone know if you are attending, just be there! This group believes that we need to be there for each other, so its primary function is as a support group. The men are very welcome to come along and be introduced to other Veterans in the member’s lounge. We are here to help each other. Visitors are always welcome; the atmosphere is friendly, as everyone will make sure that you feel welcome and comfortable. We meet in the Bistro area of the Ringwood RSL on the second Wednesday of each month around 6pm onwards. You can have a meal there if you wish, or just sit and chat. Perhaps a glass of wine, or coffee /tea with us. Stay for as long as you like. Come along and just enjoy being with a group that understands you. The RSL staff will direct you to us. August Gathering: Even though the weather was not the best, we enjoyed the company of 16 girls. A warm welcome to Lorna, we hope to see you again soon. Tess suggested that we have our Christmas function at “York on Lilydale”. It would be good if our Husbands/ partners could also attend. Tentative date 11th December. Cost $35- for a two course dinner, complete with 60’s and 70’s music and entertainment. Let us know at our next meeting on 13th October. A deposit would be required, if you are planning to come. I have obtained a few copies of the booklet “I thought it was just me” by Adele Leslie-Adams. The cost of the booklet is $5-00. This booklet is a wealth of information, and support for the children and families of Vietnam Veterans. Holidays: Welcome back to Sylvia and Ron, both are looking relaxed energised and suntanned. Received a card from Betty, we hope they are back soon, as her hubby is part of the “Tea making” service. Week away in Rye: 20th - 27th OctoberDon’t forget our week away to the RSL units at Rye. Please keep this in mind and consider coming for just a few days or even the whole week. This gives us the time to have quality time getting to know each other in a casual relaxed atmosphere. Should be a great week, with lots of fresh air, walks along the beach, food, wine, company and conversation. Final notesFor the girls who are unable
to make the second
Wednesday of the month evening, don’t forget the other option is to come
along and meet us in the RSL Bistro on the last Monday of the month. We meet
around noon, stay for as long as you wish.
