Newsletter on the Net - No. 20 - April 2004

Hi everyone and welcome to this month's newsletter on the net. Our third birthday celebrations went off with a bang!

The red roses for the table settings were greatly appreciated, and Ringwood RSL generously provided wine and soft drinks for the night. Many thanks to the club committee for this kind gesture.

There were 28 ladies in attendance, including six new ladies. The birthday cake was also a big hit, and overall a great night was had by all! The raffle raised $212 dollars and first prize went to Kaz Graydon (the husband of one of our ladies). Second to Len Polkinghorne, and third prize to Carol Smith. Congratulations to all of our prize winners!

ANZAC day

The RSL has been really busy with the ANZAC day preparations, and quite a few of our ladies have been involved in collecting for the ANZAC badges. We're looking forward to a good fundraising result from the badge collections, as part of this goes to the RSL Welfare Fund. If you're able to assist with the Poppy collection later in the year, let Sylvia know as 'many hands make light work'.

The Ringwood RSL ANZAC memorial service on Sunday 18th April was well attended, and two of our recent war widows marched and laid a wreath for the Veterans Wives Group. Our representatives were deeply honoured to be chosen for this role on the day.

On ANZAC day, 1000 people attended the dawn service at the Ringwood Clock Tower, and quite a few hundred partook of a free breakfast back at the RSL afterwards. Some went on to the city, and many others who couldn't attend stayed on at Ringwood RSL to watch the parade on the big screen in the members' area.

TPI Carers' Forum

Kay Carr and myself represented our group when we attended the TPI Carers' Forum at their headquarters in the city. I briefly explained to the meeting chairperson how our wives' group works, and we have been presented with information that we will be discussing at our next meeting in regards to improved services and support for veterans' wives.

VVCS Self-Care Programme

Ten ladies are participating in this ten-week programme, on a Monday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. There is a strong sense of friendship and support at this early stage.

Week away in Rye: 20th - 27th October

The dates for our week away have now been set. Please keep this in mind and consider coming for just a few days or even the whole week. Should be a great week, with lots of fresh air, walks along the beach, food, wine, company and conversation.

Final notes

Don't forget that the Ringwood RSL's monthly raffle is on again this Friday night, with a total prize pool valued at $3,000! Sixty tickets for $10, can be purchased at reception if you're unable to attend on the night. Winners will be notified by phone.

Special thanks to Tim Wilson for his ongoing support and keeping our website up to date.

Hope to see you all at the next meeting,

Lorraine
