Veterans Wives Group

Newsletter on the Net - No. 19 - March 2004

Hello and welcome again to our monthly newsletter.

Is there nothing more daunting than to walk into a room full of people, that you have never met before?

That's how I felt on the first night I attended the Veterans Wives Group at Ringwood RSL. But that quickly changed. Sylvia approached me immediately introduced herself and made me feel ever so welcome. She introduced me to all the girls at the table, who again made me feel very welcome.

Lorraine took me under her wing and gave both my husband and I a tour of the Club.

My husband was at that stage very new to being inside an RSL. He like many before him, were not made to feel welcome at any of the RSL clubs, but Lorraine made that a thing of the past. He has since been back several times. In fact I relish the opportunity to go on my own, occasionally.

So if you would like to join us, and you don't know anyone, don't be shy come and join us. You will be made to feel as welcome as I was.

The next meeting is our 3RD BIRTHDAY, Wednesday 14th April!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!

We would hope to see all of you girls and more to help celebrate this special event.

We have a huge baskets of goodies that have been donated by Brian Roe, and Di and Kaye have donated another special treat for our 2nd prize. So don't miss out on purchasing some raffle tickets on the night.

Also our week away at the PTI units in Rye, please give this some thought, whether you come for a day, an afternoon or stay a few days. It's a great time to be able to spend and get to know and spend a little more time with each other.

We have been fortunate in obtaining a guest speaker by the name of Tony McHugh who is from the Repatriation Hospital. Tony is coming to speak to us about the PTSD course. The date set aside for that is Friday 26th March at Ringwood RSL between 1.30 and 3.30 pm, with a further half hour set aside for questions. Please let Sylvia know if you intend on coming along.

As it is the last Friday of the month, you might want to stay on and have a meal and then continue on to the function room for the giant raffle. It's a great night and lots of great prizes are there to be won.

Also the RSL is looking for volunteers to sell Anzac badges on the 12th April. If you can spare some time please contact Ringwood RSL. Your efforts would be much appreciated.

Some of the girls (Sylvia, Joy, Agnes, Lorraine, Kay and Pat) travelled to Narre Warren, where they met and had lunch with the PVA members from Bairnsdale. Good to be able to mix with people with similar issues from outside of our own area.

We hope to see you at our April meeting.

Best wishes and good health,

Your friend,

Sue
