Newsletter on the Net - No. 16 - 11 December 2003

What a great night!

The tables were decorated courtesy of Ringwood RSL and Lorraine organizing everything. The president of the club, Ron Condon put three carafes of wine on the table, and Lorraine supplied not only soft drinks, but also our Plum pudding deserts, and refused to accept anything for them. We would like to thank you very much for your generosity. It is very much appreciated by everyone. Thanks.

We had a table for 22 which had white linen tablecloths and bon bons, glitters and flowers and it looked very special; happily we needed to reserve another smaller table for five more ladies. The total was 27 present for the presents from Santa.

Yes!! Santa did come again; and everyone sat on his knee and whispered their hearts desires to him (I do hope they behaved as ladies. I strained my ears but couldn't hear what was said!) As organized we had Kris Kringle gifts to the value of $5 and it was great to see everyone made the most of the $5, there were some great little gifts. Thanks you Santa Bill Cane and his little elf, who was moonlighting, as he is our tea person as well. Gary, you are a lovely elf, and did a great job distributing the gifts to Santa for the girls. Gary was kept very busy then doing the 'cups of tea and coffee' for everyone. Thanks to these great guys who actively encourage our group, it is very appreciated.

This month I have proposed to the group, that from next year we have a different person do the Newsletter each month to make things a bit more interesting to you all. Get a different perspective on things; it should be good for us all. I also put a Mini table news, on the table for everyone, as I knew it would be a hectic night and I might forget things. It appeared to be quite successful. One of the things mentioned, was going to Rye in Oct next year. Pat has agreed to book for us, and will let us know the date next month, to put in our diaries.

I had noted in the mini news, that our photos from Daylesford and Druin were available to see, as well as copies of our newsletters, Carers news, PVA booklet etc. T-shirts were there for purchase (3 girls bought them) and Name badges could be ordered for $10. I do advise everyone to join the PVA (Partners of Veterans Australia Inc) as it is like a union for us, in that it represents all of us, and we are only able to change things through the right channels with these ladies as our representatives. They are a very important group, and if you do not know how to get information about them, send me an email, and I will get them to contact you in your own area. Victoria has recently become incorporated, and nearly all states are now represented, so please if you are not currently a member, think about joining. Although our group is a separate unit and is a support group, we recognize the importance of unity, and most of our girls are individual members.

A very important person to our group is Tim. Tim looks after our Web site, and without him, you would not be able to read this. Thanks very much, and we hope you and your family have a very special family Christmas.

I will close for the year with a saying that my aunt wrote on her Christmas card to me. I believe it is very appropriate, and that we all now need to stand up for our Christmas traditions; letting others know that it is our culture and where we come from. We all need to become more aware of our backgrounds and what has formed us at this time of the year.

Good Luck; Good Health and God Bless

Happy Christmas and Keep Smiling

(I am aware that some times it is a difficult thing to do, but please try!)

We have had a wonderful year and have seen lots of new ladies and have had lots of laughs. Thanks to you all for being so supportive.

Sylvia
