Newsletter on the Net - No. 15 - 12 November 2003Almost Christmas! Our night was great, with twelve ladies present. It is getting very busy at this time of the year, and there are so many things that are happening. We had five girls from our group helping to sell Poppies for the Ringwood RSL at Eastland just prior to Remembrance Day, and also at the Clock tower on the morning of the 11th of Nov. I am very proud to be part of a group that helps others in this way. The funds from the sale of the poppies goes to the welfare of our Veterans. Well done again girls!! Lorraine is organizing our Christmas meeting on Dec 10th. If you are able to come around six o'clock it would be great, but otherwise just arrive when you can. It was decided to have 'Kris Kringle' in the form of taking along a small gift to the value of $5, in the Christmas theme. It is really just a token, and we all like little pressies. I have been told that 'Father Christmas' will definitely arrive at some time of the night to wish everyone a Happy Christmas. So anyone who is able to come, please join us for a fun night. Welcome to Valerie, who joined us for the first time. Hope you felt welcome, and will come again. Valerie heard about our group from Ag and myself when we were selling badges for Vietnam Veterans Day at Knox, so it was great to see her again. One of our girls Di, is having a operation on her back this week, so we wish her a quick recovery. Kay is moving in to become the Matron to make the tea and coffee, and generally look after Di when she is sent home from hospital, so watch out! We have had some great feedback from Qld about our web page. I hope that means we can expect some new stories to help others understand us. Look forward to hearing from the Queenslanders soon. We welcome all stories, and if possible will use them. Just not too long or political please. The weekend following our get together on 12th Nov was a Vietnam Veteran weekend at Druiun, and is one of the reasons forme not handing in my report sooner. It was another fantastic weekend. The weather was very hot, and the people were very friendly. Outer Eastern (which is our local VVAA group, was pipped at the post for the 'Pigs Arse' award. Perhaps it was not a bad thing, as we would have been the organizers for next years weekend, which is the weekend of 12,13, & 14th November 2004. Mark your calendars now, it is a very relaxing weekend for us all, and the fellas get to catch up on old mates. I must admit, for me, it is a time to catch up with other wives that I have met, not only at Druiun, but from lots of caravan parks around Australia. The Friday night was fantastic. Denise Drysdale was there, and a great entertainer David Goldberg as well. The weather was great and the next night there was more entertainment from another group, that was great as well. On the Sunday night, many had gone home and we had a quiet night around the fire, with Linton singing a few ditties for us. Some couples stay on for the week, but we came home on Monday due to other commitments. Look after yourselves for the next couple of months, it gets a little hectic I know. Remember the true meaning of Christmas, take a deep breath when you are waiting in queues, and smile at the person beside you, you might be surprised when they smile back. Keep Smiling Sylvia Condon |
