Newsletter on the Net - No. 11 - 14 July 2003

Hi to everyone.

We had a great night last week. Fourteen ladies came along, and it was a relaxing night.

One of the girls had a problem at work and was late, everyone was concerned for her, and this is where the support shows.

A few of us had been to Sue's mum's funeral in the afternoon. It was important for us, as Sue lost her husband late last year, and this is the time we need to show we care for each other.

Despite this, or perhaps because of this, it was a night where everyone talked and shared with each other.

Trip away

We are looking forward to our weekend at Daylesford in October. We have paid two instalments and the next is due in September.

A couple of girls are not actually staying with us, but will visit when we are there.

In fact if anyone from a ladies group with similar aims reads this and would like to come, please email or ring me, and we will arrange it.

It will be a great weekend for us all. We found last time we did a lot of 'bonding' as we are away from home.

Carers Course

The session for carers has been arranged, and will be held at Ringwood RSL on 4th August, between 1-3pm. It is actually funded by DVA, and being run by Carers Australia. The course is called "Looking After Yourself".

We are very lucky, as this is the first time this sort of group has had a course run for them.

If you are interested in attending, please call Pat on 9726 6525, as you will need to register. There is no charge, but we do need to know numbers.

A few of us will meet earlier to have lunch at the club, so if you are coming, you might like to get there earlier to relax first.

Lunch with Frankston ladies

In our last newsletter, I mentioned that we were going to meet with the ladies from Frankston. We discussed this and have decided to join them at Springvale RSL on Tues 12th August. Again if you would like to come, just be there, I am sure you will find us. We are going to have a lunch with them, and exchange ideas about our groups.

Badges

We have had name badges which have been printed on the computer, but have now decided that we are ready to move to the next step, and have some made for us.

Agnes and I approached a local store, that makes the badges for the Ringwood RSL. They are making some up for us with our rose and hands on them, and they will be ready in a couple of weeks. The cost is $10 each.

I have given them 24 names of girls who come regularly, but they are able to make extras at the same cost anytime, and as they are local it is not a problem to collect them.

Our web master

Our web master Tim, has had a hard time lately. His little girl needed to have a skin graft on her hand. We hope she is healing well and OK now.

Without Tim, we would not have this reaching so many people. Thanks Tim, and thanks to Rachael his wife, for being patient with us all.

A number of our girls go off travelling around Australia and share the word about our group and web page. At first we were a little apprehensive about it, but Tim has shown us how important it is, to reach out to everyone. I receive many emails and try to reply to them. I have been surprised at where they come from, and am pleased that it reaches so many people.

We received an email from New Zealand this week, from a couple a ladies who came to Australia to see their sister who is very ill. They met us at the club on e night, as one of our girls is a friend of their sister. They were thankful to have someone to share with, and enjoy a little company away from the hospital. When I showed the email to Helen she was very moved by what they had written. Again it is all about looking after, and supporting one another.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Keep Smiling

Sylvia Condon
