Veterans Wives Group

Hi to everyone who is interested!

I have decided to have a 'Newsletter On The Net' to be an update of what's happening and a short report of our Wednesday get togethers.

I will hopefully have this update on the web page within a week of each monthly meeting.

Keep well & Smile!

Newsletter on the Net - No. 1 - 16 Septenber 2002

On Wednesday 11th September we had a pleasant evening, eight ladies attended. Our Web master Tim, with his wife and children also came to have tea at their own table near us. We are indebted to Tim, as he believed we could reach many people by using modern technology. As a group we were a little slow to realise the benefit of using the Internet. Few of us are really computer literate, but we are now learning that it is fun and very beneficial. We can reach others who can identify with us, and can contact us on e-mail, so they are then not so isolated. It is great to get an e-mail about our web page, and we are very excited that this is now happening.

At our group we discussed our site and some of the girls will be now adding to the pages. We hope to have pictures to make a little colour to add interest.

We had planned a trip away, but have now decided we will make it every two years and go to our original destination (Daylesford) as it was a very successful trip as Agnes has mentioned in her story about our trip last year. This will also give people time to plan and save. We will fix our date at our meeting in October.

We discussed the fact that I had spoken to Helga at Vietnam Veterans Counselling Service (VVCS) to try to work out ways to encourage more help in regards to our kids (mostly young adults now!). Her belief is that we need to start with ourselves (back to us again girls!), by attending a course or encouraging our kids to become involved in the Sons and Daughters program. If we can get at least six starters, then the VVCS will run a course in the Eastern suburbs as soon as possible. Once we have broken the ice, we hope to have the positives filtering through, so others will want to do courses. Flyers have been given out to those who were there on Wednesday, and I have contacted VVCS again to see if we can put these on the web site.

Our discussions were not formal, and did not take long. As always we enjoyed just chatting and catching up.

Look forward to hearing (or reading on email!) from anyone who would like to know more about our group, or give us some feedback that is always welcome.

Until next month,
Keep well and Smile.

Sylvia
