Hardware

Well, it has been some years since we acquired our SIG's first Video Editing PC and unfortunately it cannot do the real time transitions etc. that the latest versions of software can perform.

So, we have "bitten the bullet" and built our own replacement P.C. for use at the SIG Meetings.

We have made a  DVD showing the sequence of steps in building a PC, so that we can show others how to do it (so that the brave ones amongst our members can build one for themselves).

After much discussion we agreed on the following specs and have been able to obtain all of these parts for under $2000 in total.

Asus P4P800 Deluxe version 1 Motherboard
Intel P4 3.0c CPU (800MHz FSB)

2 x 256MB Kingston
PC3200 RAM
Leadtek Winfast A340T FX5200 graphics card
2 x 80MB Seagate 7200 rpm HDDs

Pioneer 106 DVD/CD RW

1.44MB FDD

P/S 2 Keyboard

P/S 2 Optical mouse

Omni 9980 case (2 fan, 400W PSU, 2 x USB + Mic I/P & Headphone O\P on front.)

15" Phillips 150S4 black LCD monitor

Windows XP Home OEM.

The images from our computer construction are not yet available. In the meantime we present some images from the construction of the computer built for the prizewinner at the last PC User Group meeting. Members of our Video Production Steering Committee were involved in the making of a video of the construction process.
