Artist of the Year Award (a brief explanation of the award)
Award founded by former VAS Hon. Treasurer Mr. Gordon Moffatt. This award will be given to the youngest artist who has gained a place in the Award Exhibition.

This prestigious award is made to an exhibiting artist of the VAS in conjunction with the "Artist of the Year Award Exhibition" in November each year.

The VAS runs three ordinary exhibitions during the course of a year for it's members, starting with the "Undine Award" in April, the "Rembrandt" in June and a "Theme Exhibition" in September.
All exhibiting artists in the three exhibitions are invited to cast votes for their favourite 4 artists in those exhibitions. These votes are used to decide the list of candidates for the "Artist of the Year Award" exhibition, with the highest vote achiever being named Artist of the Year.

As can be seen the award is unique as it is not awarded by a committee or judge, but by the peers of the winning artist.

The votes cast are recorded at each exhibition and the resultant winner is announced during a special ceremony during the "Artist of the Year Award" night.
