Annual Camps

As well as camps and hikes that we organise and go on as a unit, there are four major camps that our unit attend each year that are run for venturers all over the state.  These are

Vic Gathering (VG)

Anything Goes (AG)

Hoadley Hide (HH)

BARCOM

Our unit also enjoys a weekend up at Mt Buller every August where we ski and snowboard all day Saturday and Sunday, as well as a parents dinner.

Vic Gathering

Held in early December, Vic Gathering is a camp for Venturers from all over the state.  In 2003, VG was held at Mafeking Rover Park, near Yea, but the location changes every two years to allow for a variety.  At Vic Gathering there are heaps of on-site activities such as the Abseiling Tower, 4-Wheel Driving, Jelly Wrestling, BMX Biking and the old favourite the Jumping Castle to keep you entertained.  Some activities run all weekend - even at 3am in the morning so there is always something to do.  Sleep at VG is not optional, it is illegal.  Visit www.vicgathering.com for more details.

Anything Goes

Held in late February each year, Anything Goes (AG) is considered by many venturers to be the best camp of the year.  Prior to AG you chose two or three major activities that you would like to do, such as Scuba Diving, Car Motorkhana, Dirt Bikes, Go-Karting, 4-Wheel Driving and Water Skiing.  In between these great activities you can do on-site activities such as Jelly Wrestling, Jumping Castle and Crate Stacking.  At Anything Goes you can also meet up with all your friends that you made at VG.   Visit www.ag2004.net to find out more about this sensational camp!!!

Hoadley Hide

Known to venturers as Hoadley, this is the biggest venturer competition camp in Victoria and is held over easter each year.  Our unit won Hoadley in 2003, beating other units from all over the state.  At Hoadley you must hike around a national park attending 'stunts' organised by rovers and leaders.  A stunt may involve a venturers knowledge about navigation or it may involve being chained to a cargo net and having blue custard thrown on you.  At the end of the day you go to a designated VOC (Venturer Overnight Camp) where there is a disco and you can cook dinner and catch up with venturers from all over the state.  Venturers must be self sufficient for the entire four days.  Visit www.hoadleyhide.com for more information.

BARCOM

Standing for Best Australian River Centre On Murray, BARCOM is held in the September school holidays each year.  You build a raft with supplied materials and then raft down the Murray for an entire week.  There are two BARCOM trips every year, each taking 32 people, so you have to get in quick.  Raft from Murrabit to Swan Hill or from Swan Hill to Wood Wood.  BARCOM is the best week you will ever have.  Look on our photos page for some BARCOM shots or visit http://home.vicnet.net.au/~barcom/ for more details.

Buller

Every year our unit has a weekend up at Mt Buller skiing and snowboarding.  This is for our unit only but is still a hell of fun.  We go up on the Friday night and spend all day Saturday and Sunday skiing the slopes.

Parents Dinner

Every year around September, our unit puts on a dinner for our parents.  The dinner is held around a theme where both parents and venturers dress up according to the theme.  The venturers spend many weeks prior to the dinner making decorations which a hung around the hall to emphasize the theme.  The venturers cook a full 3 course meal for the parents and so far have never poisoned a single parent!

Our unit also goes camping and hiking throughout the year - as well as many courses - such as Unit Management, Leadership and First Aid.
