The Award Scheme

Seeing as Venturers are actually older scouts we do have an award scheme.

The award scheme in Venturers consists of three parts

The Venturing Skills Award

Nearly all venturers complete this award at some stage.  This is the first award that a venturers earns and they cannot progress onto their Queen Scout until they have earned their Venturing Skills.  For a venturer to earn their Venturing Skills they must go on a hike with their unit and do a series of skills considered necessary to survive in the bush.  They also need to explain to their examiner how the award scheme works in venturers.

The Queen Scout Award

Probably the most prestigious award in scouting, the Queen Scouts is achieved by a venturer who has first completed their venturing skills.  The Queen Scout award is divided into four sections; personal growth, adventurous activities, leadership development and community services.  For each of the four sections there are also another three to five subsections.  All of these subsections must be completed in order for a venturer to gain their queen scout.  Venturers must find an examiner for each subsection, get approval of the unit council and the District Venturer Council (DVC), complete the activity and then get the examiner to sign off on the activity.  Proposal forms are necessary for most activities and can be obtained from your leader along with the guidelines for leaders, venturers and examiners.

The Major Interest Award

The major interest award is an extra award for venturers that have a major interest in a specific area of the Queen Scout Award Scheme and is done in extension.  A venturer will generally have to complete an extra 50 hours towards this task.  Anything can be used but it does require both unit council and DVC approval.]
