About Us
Monash Friends of Vemasse is a group of City of Monash residents and other interested people who have made an agreement with the residents of the Sub-District of Vemasse in Timor Leste.
We aim to develop a relationship between the two and to provide some assistance in the reconstruction and development of Vemasse which, like all of Timor Leste, was devastated by the Indonesian destruction and looting before they left. We were selected to work with the Sub-District of Vemasse as part of the East Timor-Australia Friendship Groups Program.
In December 2008 Monash City Council voted to formalize the relationship with the Vemasse Sub-District and to provide some support to Friends of Vemasse.
September 2010 Barbara Hadkinson, Beatrice Head, Val Harvey, Heather Spurling & Allan Clausen were re-elected to the committee and Kerry Powell was also elected. Cr Joy Banerji and Nick Andrianas remain as the Monash City Council nominees. At our request Roger Budd, Colin King and Rob Owers were nominated by Wheelers Hill Lions Club to join our committee. We value the contribution our Lions are making.

Regular committee meetings are held. In addition several meetings are held with our wider support base focusing on current project support and matters relating to Vemasse and Timor Leste generally. Members are informed when these meetings are held and are also free to attend committee meetings.
