Partnerships for Health – A VicHealth Initiative
The VAFA, in partnership with VicHealth, are conducting a two year program as part of the
“Promoting Health through Sport and Recreation” Program. Under the
“Partnership for Health Scheme” within this program, we are carrying out a series of
activites that addresses three key areas of a healthy and active lifestyle:
- We are addressing the provision of 100% smokefree indoor environments associated with fencing in all clubs and venues
- We are establishing and implementing practices and policies relating to the prevention of sports injuries – as part of this element, there is a significant funding initiative to assist coaches and clubs with the purchase of safety equipment for use in classes
- We are launching a participation initiative to encourage mature adults [principally 40+] to become involved with the sport of fencing. This will involve the provision of learn to fence classes for this age group, or alternatively, providing this target group with the opportunity to participate in wider ‘learn to fence’ programmes, and creating a framework designed to encourage their continued involvement in the sport.
We acknowledge the support, both financial and other, of VicHealth in this ambitious Project.
