BIRD SALES

Only financial affiliates of the Victorian Avicultural Council [ VAC ] may conduct bird sales involving native birds.

Prior to the VAC negotiating directly with the Minister of the day, bird sales were not recognised by government and held no legal status.

There are fourteen bird sales yearly, sanctioned by the Department of Sustainability and Environment for selling licensed native birds.

These are held in Melbourne and provincial cities around Victoria, enabling most aviculturists and the general public to attend.

They are generally held at the same time each year according to a formula, but Easter Sunday causes minor amendments in some years.

If a sale is cancelled due to heat, then it is deferred to a later date for that year only returning to its normal time next year.

Some sales have voluntarily moved to a later date permanently to avoid the heat problem.

It is recommended that prospective attendees check with the sale organiser if the predicted temperature is 32°or higher.

Some details may alter due to unavoidable circumstances. Check with the sale organiser to confirm date & venue.

These are the Bird Sales that have been approved by the Department for 2008.
