The Victorian Avicultural Council (VAC) is an incorporated organisation (registration number A00178371) consisting of Victorian bird clubs. Any group of ten or more people may affiliate upon payment of an annual fee. This entitles the organisation to:
· send 2 delegates to the delegates' meetings,
· a vote on all matters requiring resolution,
· receipt of the Newsletter (including all minutes) and other circulated material,
· a say on matters affecting bird breeders in Victoria and
· a say in national matters through affiliation with the Avicultural Federation of Australia (AFA).
The VAC currently has a wide range of affiliates including budgerigar, cage bird, canary, finch, parrot, pheasant, waterfowl, and general avicultural groups.
The VAC is affiliated to a national body called the Avicultural Federation of Australia
(AFA). The Victorian Avicultural
Council is the Victorian member of the AFA and has three delegates who sit on the Board of the AFA. To see how you, your club and the
VAC fit into the AFA national structure, click
here.
Visitors, invited by an affiliate, are welcome to attend meetings.
For $25 (less than the subscription to many bird magazines for one person), your ENTIRE GROUP can be informed and represented as well as become a part of a unified, representative body. The VAC supports its affiliates in Local Government matters (if required). It has people with experience in this area willing to help your organisation.
The Stolen Bird Hotline directly addresses the problem of thefts and links to a network across Australia. Some successes, in convictions and recoveries have resulted directly from this activity. Some of the VAC's achievements are found elsewhere on this website.
Does the VAC interfere with club business? NO! The VAC is not a governing body. Its constitution clearly states that all affiliates retain full and complete autonomy. The VAC works as a co-operative federation of clubs with each organisation - however small or large - having an equal say and an equal vote.
Affiliation with the VAC does not affect your club's affiliations with other organisations.
Affiliation and the associated voting rights are open only to clubs. However, individuals can (and do!) subscribe to the Newsletter to keep informed of legislative issues. To affiliate or subscribe, simply complete the attached form, enclose the correct payment and post it by snail mail!
