Claudia-Maria
Luenig is a German born artist, who migrated to Australia in 1985 and
currently works and lives in Vienna, Austria. Her work is concentrated
around issues of the consumer society and social values with an active
involvement of the viewer at most times. The work To Cut is to Fuse will discuss the subject Beauty, it's common ground for acceptance and recognition, standards and expectations. Is there such a thing as global beauty or 'beautiful' globalisation. What expectations do we have towards beauty within a globally expanding environment and what conditions are laid out for the consumer. With an ever growing population in the global environment beauty is sold to the masses in all kinds of packages with no regard to need or necessity of the nations global position. The work consists of 3 dresses made of varying materials. They are not finished garments but patterns in the state of development. Patterns orientate themselves along international differing standard sizes, referring to the underneath, to be seen in difference to the visible surface. The cut is only then effective as a seam when the dress closes as a three dimensional mould, as a piece of clothing which signifies the body as an imprint. The Fusion of the actual naturalistic and the natural body is reflected in the use of Chinese materials and western methods of cutting and stitching. Claudia-Maria Luenig cv |
