Fusion - a transfer of cultural experiences and concepts. Having worked together for so long from separate countries the immediacy of building up this wall piece holds great significance. We are in the same room, in the same country, working together. We move amongst each others artworks and ideas with ease. Our concepts fuse together. We are thinking about culture... Culture is often used as a point of discrimination. To keep us separate and at a distance. To make us different. Real cultural fusion begins under the skin in the brain and the heart. Looking at a person's brain or heart you can not distinguish culture or race. Our cells are fused together. We are looking at images.... Scientific drawings of plants and organs. Cells multiplying. Copy and separate. Hearts, babies, plants, scissors, Chinese horses, skin and fish. We talk about us... Two languages, German and English. Two mediums, painting and sculpture. We have melted and fused our ideas through an art dialogue. The process is like cells reproducing. The individual is not lost within the whole. We notice that we are still separate. Still German, still Australian, still painter and sculptor. The collaboration creates something greater. Something entirely new and evolving. Yvonne Kendall was born in the UK and lived in Australia since 1974. Henning Eichinger is German. They currently live in Germany. Yvonne Kendall is represented by Niagara Galleries, Melbourne. niagara-galleries.com.au galerie-borchardt.de wilhelm-fabry-museum.de galerie-epikur.de |
