In this ever changing world where evolving technology has opened the global door, individuals are simultaneously creating and discovering a new urban experience: the global city. Through random chance connections and self selection by like minded individuals, the global city, with its limitless spatial boundaries and cultural crossovers, is inhabited by individuals with overlapping, non linear experiences of, and perceptions of, contemporary urban life and space. |

global city exhibition October 20 to December 15, 2000 45 artists and 54 cities Exhibition in public locations in Melbourne at the Public Office stairwell, 100 Adderley Street West Melbourne and tram stops on the City Circle Tram route. @ global city forum 6-7.30pm Friday November 3, 2000 Public Office, 100 Adderley Street, West Melbourne In association with the @ global city exhibition Claudia-Maria Luenig artist talk - Localities @ Austria Initiatives and projects in the urban areas of Vienna and Graz. The talk will introduce projects and initiatives of artists in Vienna and Graz who work experimentally and independently from galleries and institutions who dominate the system and representation of the visual arts in Austria. The two main projects to be discussed are SOHO Ottakring in Vienna and Rhizom im Labor in Graz. The talk will include future possibilities of networking between Australia and Austria. Claudia-Maria Luenig is German born, currently living and working in Vienna. She has exhibited extensively in Europe. Claudia has lived in, and exhibited in, Australia over a number of years. Her return to Australia to speak at the @ global city forum is courtesy of Kunst bundeskanzleramt in Vienna and urbanart in Melbourne. Anne Marie Power artist talk - Paper Art @ Italy Anne Marie Power has just returned from a conference and workshop in Umbria. Her work explores the links between Asia and Europe. |
