A Grade Report - Round 10

The A grade ventured to the well manicured Brighton ground in a top of the table clash 1 vs 2. Stinky in a very uncharacteristic move won the toss and stood motionless waiting for the opposition captain to choose, before realizing it is his choice and on a flat but little grassy pitch decided to bat. Changes to this side was Greg "sideburns" Vaughan taking the week of for a holiday and Graham "Roy" Burton back in after his duck and no wickets in the B Grade. Opening the batting was the two Andy's - Cotton and Caire - who got of to a very solid start before "Fine" Cotton underestimated the umpires eye-sight and was run out for 21. Then the third Andy in the line up came in and lifted the tempo hoisting the opening bowler over mid-off for a six. Stinky proceeded to 36 before the "former rockstar" Cairey took of for a suicidal single to leave the captain short of his ground. TC after work bragging rights came in and got away quickly. TC was out for a run a ball 33 and with 10 overs left we were in a very good position at 3/180.

This is when the wheels fell off. Cairey out for his first 50 this season for a very well made 56. Grassy then ran out his mate and regular in the Sunday mail gossip column Hayden Daley for 20 and then wickets fell everywhere and we limped to 9/226 of our 50 overs. Still a very competitive total but certainly could have been a lot higher.

In the field the usual opening duo of  Wazza and Tom "Splinter" Rodan opened up both bowling very tight spells. Wazza bowled his 10 straight and took 2/28 and splinter 0/19 of 8 unlucky overs. The old man of the side took up into the wind duties after splinter and "snooze" produced another fine performance taking 2/19 of 7 overs. CT bowled a couple and wasn't quite his day. After drinks Burts took over and with old man Dan bowling tightly from the other end the batsman tries to go after him. Shaggy however cashed in and took 4/30 from 8. Stink after his recent rants about maintaining high fielding standards dropped a sitter of Burts only to see "Tuffers" Wazza take a sharp catch next ball. The socialite Hayden Daley came on late to take 2/19. The second side bowled out for 129.

Chasing bonus points we batted a second time and finished 2/44 of 7 overs. A comprehensive win and another solid victory in the last minor round game should give top spot before the start of the finals.
