NOVEMBER 2009

BUSHWALKING
Hello enthusiastic bushwalkers.
On our last walk in October we had the pleasure of a new member joining us - welcome Laraine, we hope you will enjoy the walks as much as we do.
On the first Saturday, November 7 we shall meet at Croydon station at 9 am for an 8 km walk in the Warrandyte area, and on the third Saturday, November 21 we shall do a shorter walk of 5 km.

RE-DISCOVERING MELBOURNE RAMBLE GROUP

Our outing for the November Ramble is on the 28th of November, for a full tour of the lovely Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens.
Our booking is 11am but we have to be there earlier so we shall get the 9 06 Train from Croydon and 9.15 from Ringwood, that gives us time for our usual cup of coffee at Flinders Street.
The cost is only $3.50 each for a Group booking, but I need definite numbers for this price so please ring me by the 14th November any cancellations after I have booked are non refundable.
Byo Lunch and water to drink
There is also a Ramble on Thursday 3rd of December. This is a visit to the Supreme Court so should be very interesting.
We are booked for the 1.15pm tour so I suggest the 9.52 train from Croydon and 9.59 from Ringwood; this will give us a couple of hours to view the Christmas attractions in the city.
Bookings for this are also essential by the 14th November

AUSTRALIAN STUDIES

The Australian Studies Group meets in the Springfield Hall each Friday 10-12.30 . We serve a cuppa at 10.00 and the Guest Speaker starts at 10.30.

Nov 6: Talk from a representative of the Stroke Foundation.
Nov 13: John Astley giving a talk.
Nov 20: Paul Wheeton speaking about the Children’s Life Education and Orphanages.
Nov 27: Alison Minogue talking about Myo Therapy and allied subjects.

 U3A CYCLE GROUP TERM 4

Current U3A Membership is essential. New cyclists and those returning to cycling are welcome.
The ride scheduled for Thursday November 5th is a good one to try, if you are returning to cycling, and would like something less challenging.
We are riding from the U3A Office, down the Taralla Creek Trail, which leaves from the back of the civic centre car park, along the bike path to the Eastfield Road shops, on Bayswater Road - 10am start.
Thursday November 19: Meet at Mooroolbark Community Park (Melway 37 H 12) at
10am.
Where: Red Earth to Edna Walling Estate, 2 to 3 hours.

Thursday December 3: Meet at Lilydale Station near ticket box (Melway 38 D4) at 9.30.
Earlier Start - Train leaves Croydon Station approx 9am.
Where: Warburton Trail to Mount Evelyn or beyond. Vicrail takes bikes , particularly off-peak - 3 hours approximately.

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

YOU KNOW YOU'RE GETTING OLDER WHEN...

Does your body have arthritis? Is your hair turning gray?
Do the wrinkles on your aging face feel like they've come to stay?

When your husband turns the heat up and you are still cold,
remember these are just some signs that say, You're getting old.

Your grandchildren are getting older and their birthdays you forget,
and you wish that you could subtract twenty years from a body that just wants to sit.

Does your body do one sit-up that stays with you all day?
Half in the morning when you get up and the other half when you're in bed to stay.

The clothes you had when younger you can suddenly no longer wear.
You try to put them on anyway, but all they do is tear.

You walk to the bathroom to brush your teeth and find that they're not there.
Your chest is going up and down and you have to try hard just to get some air.

You try to stick to a diet and your food intake goes down.
But, when you get on the scale, it shows you've gained two pounds.

You decide to do some jogging, oh, say twice around the block.
You set the alarm to time yourself and you get beat by the clock.

When you mention 'Elvis' to someone and they say to you, Who's he?
You tell them a famous singer and they say, Was he on your family tree?

You decide to look for your glasses, so you can read in bed.
You look all over the house for them and find they're on top of your head.

When your best friend has a birthday, no matter what time of the year.
Do you remember to send them a card, or a late one that says, I missed it. Oh, dear.

Don't feel bad about growing older. We all have to do it someday.
Even though old age is starting to catch up to you, don't let insulting birthday greetings get in your way.
