The
20th March 2000 represents a significant day in the history of The
Tullamarine Tennis Club as it is the 25th anniversary of the
incorporation of the Club. From very humble beginnings in Spring
Street sharing clubrooms with the cricket and football clubs we are
now at our current home with modern clubrooms, floodlit courts and
ample grounds.
A lot
of water has passed under the bridge during this time and a lot of
hard work from a lot of dedicated and enthusiastic members has been
the reason we enjoy the comfortable surrounds we now do. It is an
appropriate time to look back and remember some of the events of
previous years that brought us to this point.
On
the following pages (to be added soon) a lot of the facts and
figures of the club have been documented and some stories that will
bring back memories to some of the longer members. The task of
trying to put such a history together was not an easy one and thanks
are to go to Amanda Adams for the enthusiasm and hard work she has
put into getting this record in place. Fortunately Amanda received
some assistance in the process and we must also thank Lyn Way and
Costa Koutzas for their efforts in helping Amanda.
This
is not the definitive history of our club but merely a starting
point to be built on, too much work has been done to simply
distribute this record and then let it be forgotten. A master copy
shall be held by the committee on disc that can be added to in
future. Hopefully some of the events inside will remind members of
other events and stories which can be added, each year we will
continue to add the facts, figures and stories of that year. We hope
that reading this history will bring back some pleasant memories for
those involved and inform the newer members of what has happened at
the club before them.
As
you look back and see how far we have come combined with our current
position of comfortable surrounds and financial stability we have a
lot to be grateful for. The next 25 years will offer different
challenges as we continue to grow the club and ensure we remain an
important part of the Tullamarine Community.
