Recruitment

The Torquay Fire Brigade is a fully volunteer Brigade.
Torquay Fire Brigade members are involved not only in firefighting and emergency response, but also:

  • Community awareness and education programs
  • Fundraising
  • Secretarial
  • Maintenance of equipment

On joining the CFA, new members will undertake a six month probationary period. During this period members will undertake practical training run by the Brigade which includes (map reading, radios and communication, pump operations, safety and survival, hose bowling and rolling). In addition to this, new members will undergo theory based assessment to ascertain the minimum skills required by any member to attend a fire. Of course, the training does not stop there, as there is an abundance of training opportunities available both via the Brigade and the CFA (i.e. First Aid, Breathing Apparatus, etc).
Being a member our brigade is extremely rewarding and offers members with benefits such as:

  • belonging to a cohesive, disciplined and well trained group of individuals
  • serving the community
  • learning new skills
  • sense of achievement
  • meeting new people from a range of backgrounds and making new friends
