2010 PRODUCTION

Cleopatra is a sparkling musical comedy set in Ancient Egypt.

It is 45 BC and Rome dominates the known world. However Rome is short of food. First Julius Caesar and later Marc Anthony go to Egypt to arrange for grainshipments. Both are hopelessly smitten by the beautiful and beguiling Queen Cleopatra.

Meanwhile nasty work is afoot. Cleopatra's evil vizier is plotting to overthrow the queen , and the Roman senators are planning to assassinate Caesar.

While history claims that Anthony fell on his sword and that an asp killed Cleopatra, this version has an alternative explanation that ensures there is a happy-ever-after ending!

Excerpt from Theatrecraft, October 2010

"In its 30th year and after 44 productions, the Track Youth Theatre must surely be one of the state's most important groups for introducing young people to the stage. Their latest production, Cleopatra, was a good example of the verve and enthusiasm that we have come to expect from the Track production team and actors...an almost continuous stream of gags, whimsical one-liners and the lyrics of some very amusing songs."

"The costumes, ranging from Cleopatra's flamboyant glitter to the tiny uniforms of Caesar's "small bodyguard", were simply outstanding."

"Cleopatra was a happy mix of history and humour set to music and brought to the stage by a dedicated crew and an enthusiastic cast." Reviewed by Ken Barnes - August 20, 2010
