Orville - Thomson & Comrie Store & Union Bank 1876

Orville - Thomson & Comrie Store & Union Bank 1876

Photo taken at Possum Hill ( Orville ) in 1876. Thomson & Comrie's Store lasted less than 2 years and burnt down in 1878, Frederick Cherry managed the store and Post Office. Photo by Lange & Son. Possum Hill (Orville) is next to Murphy's Creek. It is at the end of Hancock's Lane. If you have fire brigade maps or look up Orville on Google Earth, you will see it as a belt of mine shafts. It is mentioned in Flett's Dunolly and Carless's Rheola books. It is 10 mins drive from Tarnagulla.
Orville once had 28 hotels, stores, bank branches etc and is now a group of white clay holes in the middle of a paddock.
