Flat Wire Rope from the Poverty Reef
This is an interested relic from the 1880s when the Prince of Wales and Old Poverty Company converted their winding machinery from flat wire rope to round wire rope. The old rope was simply dragged well into the bush and discarded. It is a most interesting and quite rare relic, and measures approximately 80mm by 10mm. This style of rope succeeded the old Indian hemp flat rope, and was in turn superseded by the round wire rope.
