Llanelly Shaft, Corfu Reef, 2015

Llanelly Shaft, Corfu Reef, 2015

Looking North, the concrete slab forms a cap over the shaft and was constructed in the 1970s when the mine was briefly reopened. The winder mountings can be seen in the foreground.

This shaft was originally worked by the Last Chance Company in the 1860s, and then by the Llanelly Company in the 1890s when it was sunk to 250 feet.

Further under-funded attempts were made to reopen the mine in the 1930s.
