Yorkshire Mine, Tarnagulla, 2014

Battery foundations constructed in 1904.
The company installed a modern and very substantial ore-processing facility at this location, a little north-west of the main shaft.
There are a total of four concrete pits with very heavy iron bolts running through them. The iron bolts held together massive red gum blocks which formed the foundations of four huge cast-iron mortar boxes each housing five stamp heads weighing about 500 kilograms each.
After the mine failed in 1907, the battery was sold in 1911 to the Catherine Reef United mine in Eaglehawk, where it remained in use for some years.
