Thomas Comrie was apprenticed as a grocer to Thomas Aylward & Co, Tea Merchants, in Glasgow from 1853 and arrived in Melbourne in January 1857 on the ship “Istamboul”. He travelled to Waanyarra where he joined the firm of Thomson & Turnbull and after it’s disolution in 1858 joined George Thomson as a partner to form the firm of Thomson & Comrie which in 1859 established Thomson & Comrie, Exchange Store, in Tarnagulla.
