TAP:ONE 'TAMI MI LUKIM'
PAPUA NEW GUINEAN ART EXHIBITION
Tumbuna Art Project (TAP) was established primarily to facilitate 'Taim mi Lukim' - a Papua New Guinean Art Exhibition held in Melbourne in March 2010.
“Taim mi Lukim” (Pidgin for “When I saw it”) was the title of the exhibition. It presented a snapshot into Papua New Guinean culture and landscape, combining spiritual connections from the artists land and tradition, with development and gradual social change over the years.
This unique combination of both established and emerging Papua New Guinean artists, provided a rare opportunity to discover the contemporary art from a new generation of Papua New Guinean artists.
TAP GIVES BACK TO THE
PAPUA NEW GUINEAN ARTISTS
After the success of 'Taim mi Lukim' in Melbourne in March 2010, new art supplies were purchased to take back to the artists in Madang and Port Moresby.
Many of the pieces were snapped up on Opening Night and several more by the end of the show. The positive response from the exhibition will be a huge encouragement to each artist, especially the emerging artists, having never exhibited before.
All profits went directly back to the artists, and will enable them to continue their art and purchase new materials.
