Sonja Hansen

Sonja studied for an Advanced Certificate of Handloom Weaving at the Melbourne College of Textiles, from 1978 to 1979, and a Bachelor of Education in Visual Arts at Melbourne University, 1987 to 1990. She was a consultant to the Small Industries Program (weaving) in Indonesia in 1983. Sonja was employed as a weaver at The Victorian Tapestry Workshop from 1980 to 1992, during which time she also worked with community groups involved with collaborative tapestry making. In 1992, Sonja undertook a study tour of Europe, travelling to England, Scotland and France to study historical and contemporary tapestries and weaving techniques.
