About the Tangy Lightning Cricket Club.... *** The Tangy Lightning Cricket Club was founded in March 2001. The club was started from the notion of "facilitating family and friends to come together in a sporting capacity". This statement was initiated by the Tangasseri Association of Australia, which commissioned an interim committee to start a sporting club for the association. The Tangasseri Association of Australia was based around the families and friends of those who migrated to Australia from the village of Tangasseri in southern India. Cricket is probably the most popular sport within the Indian culture and as such the sport of choice for the Tangasseri Association. Members of the Association were already playing for a variety of other clubs, but none had the Tangasseri community culture attached to it. Tangasseri is famous both for its light-house, and the spectacular lightning which is distinctive to the region, hence the name "Tangy Lightning" with a lighthouse on the logo. The Tangy Lightning Cricket Club has concluded its 1st season memorably coming 5th in the competition. The team consists predominantly of Tangasseri Association members, (which is the parent club) but we also welcome players and support outside the association. The Tangy Lightning therefore has a supporter base of over 300 people (who are members of the Tangasseri Association of Australia). Currently we have one senior team, but are also looking at a junior team to play. Our home ground is the Edingburg Reserve. The address is Edingburg Reserve, Springvale North. Melway reference number 80 D5. We look forward to seeing you all at the games for 2003-2004 season. ***
