talk artists initiative inc. is located on the sixth floor of the Nicholas Building on Swanston Street. With four windows looking out onto a view which takes in St Paul's Cathedral, Flinders Street Station, the Botanical Gardens and the Shrine, the city of Melbourne is very present in the gallery.talk present transcriptions of informal conversations with exhibitors as the text accompanying works seen in the space.
talk will utilize a website hosted by VICNET where installation photographs from each exhibition accompanied by the conversation with the artist can be perused in tandem and at leisure by the viewer.
talk hopes to encourage:
- interchange between artistic practice and its location
- exchanges between artists and artist run spaces both within and outside Melbourne
- a range of types of practice
- artistic or not
- conversations around and about the artwork.
We invite proposals from both practitioners and those who are not visual artists to make use of talk as they choose, to utilize the web-site as an adjunct to exhibitions in the space, or as the exhibition space.
We encourage a gamut of approaches to exhibiting work, from work in experimental or unfinished stages, throwaway shows, imaginary work, to more considered 'finished' work. talk artists initiative inc. was set up by Sandra Bridie, Jonathan Luker and Jennifer Mills. Members of talk are Maxine Addinsall, Angela Bailey, Penelope Davis, Carolyn Dew, Peter Lambropoulos and James Morrison.
