The township of Talbot is located approximately
150kms from Melbourne and 50kms from Ballarat. Talbot is located right
in the heart of the Central Victorian Goldfields.
Talbot Fire Brigade is a B Type
Rural Volunteer brigade located in CFA Region 15.
The Brigade is a member of the Tullaroop Group of fire brigades and
supports, and receives support from:
Bowenvale Carisbrook Maryborough Mt. Cameron
Moolort Wareek
Ballarat Group: Clunes.
Pyrenees Group: Burnbank & Avoca.
The Talbot Brigade is not only responsible for the township of Talbot
with a population of approximately 330, but is also responsible for an
area of Daisy Hill in the north to Dunach in the South, Bung Bong on the
Western boundary and Craigie to the East, with surrounding district
population at approximately 1220.
The total population of the Talbot Brigade area is estimated at
approximately 1550.
The Brigade area covers a large 45,000 acres or, 17,307 hectares, which
includes 6490 hectares of Box Ironbark forest and Grassy Woodland. 51
kilometres of the Brigade's boundaries are shared with DSE & Parks
Victoria.
Emergency
Response
Talbot Fire Brigade responds to an average of 22
callouts per year. The majority of these calls are grass & scrub fires,
followed by structure fires, MVA's & vehicle fires.
The brigade receives all emergency
calls from 'VICFIRE Ballarat' Country Call-Taking centre; brigade
members are alerted to all emergencies through EAS Alpha numeric pagers.
Since the introduction of EAS, Talbot's average response time has
lowered to 3 minutes for a full tanker crew.
Since 1/1/1998 - 17/09/2007 the
brigade has responded to 233 calls.
