POSITIVE BODY IMAGE GRANTS AVAILABLE
Nationals Member for Benalla, Bill Sykes encourages community groups
and organisations to apply for grants of up to $5000 to promote
healthy lifestyle choices and a positive body image in young people.
Dr
Sykes said the "Go for Your Life" Positive Body Image Grants aim to
build self esteem and confidence and are available for groups who
work with young people, especially those aged 12-16.
"The
projects should encourage healthy lifestyle choices. Young people's
health and well being are vital to their success in remaining
engaged in their communities," Dr Sykes said.
"From
my visits around the Benalla Electorate, including its many schools,
I am aware of the importance for young people participating in
sporting clubs and activities to help develop their self esteem and
sense of community.
"The
Benalla Electorate is lucky to have a range of different
opportunities for young people to engage in physical activities such
as swimming, horse riding, football, cricket, water and snow skiing,
soccer and bike riding."
The
Positive Body Image Grants 2010 support projects that promote
positive body image messages such as skill development for young
people in leadership, mentoring, information and peer support;
programs that recognise the different concerns of young people;
activities that stimulate young people to build awareness of
positive body image and practical programs to encourage healthy
eating and physical activity.
Partnerships between young people supported by a community
organisation such as a community or neighbourhood house, secondary
school, local government, health centre or youth service would be
encouraged.
Guidelines are available from Bill Sykes' office, 2/55 Carrier
Street, Benalla or by phoning 5762 2100.
Applications for
Positive Body Image Grants 2010 must be submitted online at
