Christmas Message from Bill Sykes MP

Christmas is about being with family and friends and of course celebrating the birth of Christ.

Christmas is a time to reflect on the highs and lows of the past year. The lows include the drought and bushfires but the highs include the fantastic resilience of our families and communities and a strengthening of our sense of belonging within the community.

Whilst you are enjoying Christmas, the presents and abundant food, spare a thought for those less fortunate and go one step better – ask someone who may be alone at Christmas to share your Christmas Dinner or donate a present or food to local charities which pass it on to deserving people.

Think also how you can make the world a better place starting with more openly sharing your love with family and friends, pitching in and supporting the many community activities, the success of which depend on volunteer input and community support.

My wife Sally and I, along with my staff, will be taking a short break to ‘recharge our batteries’ and to spend time with family and friends.

We look forward to continuing to serve the community to the best of our ability in 2008.

Best wishes for Christmas and New Year.
