SYKES/DELAHUNTY TO VISIT NE HOSPITALS

Local MP Bill Sykes and Nationals Spokesperson for Health, Hugh Delahunty will visit hospitals in NE Victoria next week to discuss local health issues.

Hospitals to be visited include Nagambie, Euroa, Violet Town, Mansfield, Benalla and Alpine Health Services.

Dr Sykes said, “Hugh Delahunty and I will be very keen to hear first hand issues of concern to local hospitals.

“Obviously, funding will be a major issue with several local hospitals receiving very small increases in real income over the past few years.

“A major issue is likely to be the provision of mental health services as the impact of the ongoing drought is causing enormous stress on many families.

“Public dental health services will also no doubt be an issue.

“In the Mansfield area, the funding of accident and emergency services and a year round health service on Mt Buller are likely to be on the agenda.

“At Nagambie, we will be keen to meet the new CEO, Amanda Fieldhouse and, as with Kym Durance at Euroa, discuss flexibility in arrangements with Goulburn Valley Base Hospital to provide the best possible care for Euroa and Nagambie residents.

“We will also meet the members of the Nagambie CERT team.

“At Myrtleford we expect Alpine Health Services CEO, Lyndon Seys to discuss the challenges of matching the needs of people with the appropriate facilities in Myrtleford, Bright and Mt Beauty. Aged care facility needs in Bright are expected to be discussed.

“At Benalla, general hospital funding is likely to be discussed.”

Dr Sykes concluded, “It is an ongoing battle to ensure that country people have access to good quality health and dental services.

“The Nationals will build on existing good relationships with the new Minister for Health, Daniel Andrews and continue to lobby hard for access to appropriate health services for country people.”
