Friday, 20 July 2007 SYKES CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR HONOUR ROLL FOR WOMEN The Nationals Member for Benalla, Bill Sykes, has called for people to identify and nominate women in the community for the 2008 Honour Roll for Women. Dr Sykes said, “As this is the final year for the Honour Roll I suggest people consider nominating outstanding women in our community who have made considerable contributions to the region in a range of areas such as health, education, environment, the arts, sport and social justice. This will allow us to publicly recognise women who have made a significant difference to our community and celebrate their success.” This year the honour roll inductees will be announced to coincide with the celebrations of the Centenary of Women’s Suffrage in the coming year. Dr Sykes said, “Earlier this year, I helped sponsor and support the Women at the Well Forum in Benalla. This was an event where women could share their skills and experiences as well as recognise the huge input women make to our farming and the wider community. Dr Sykes added, “With the changing role of women in society, we are aware of the contribution that women play in our communities, often working in roles that do not receive the recognition they deserve. By nominating women that have made major contributions to our communities, we can endeavour to include these women on the 2008 Honour Roll.” Nominations will close at 5 pm Friday 28 September. Nomination forms may be obtained from Dr Sykes’s electorate office at 2/55 Carrier Street, Benalla or telephone 5762 2100. Forms can also be obtained from the Office of Women’s Policy website: www.women.vic.gov.au Media contact: Bill Sykes (03) 5762 2100 or 0427 624 989 |
