LOCAL HISTORY AWARDS OPEN

Applications are now open for the 2007 Information Victoria Community History Awards, The Nationals Member for Benalla, Bill Sykes said today.

The annual awards, run in conjunction with the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, provide a major prize of $5000, and six prizes of $1000.

Dr Sykes said that there are many individuals and groups in the Benalla electorate working to record the history of the region in imaginative ways.

“I encourage people who have been involved in historical projects to consider applying for one of these awards which recognise excellence in historical method and foster the development and appreciation of the history of Victoria.

“Entries are judged on content and presentation, with a view to encouraging innovative ways of recording community history,” he said.

Categories include best collaborative/community work; best print/publication; best audio-visual/multi-media; best exhibit/display; best walk/tour; and best community research, register and records.
