SYKES – CHOICES AVAILABLE FOR
GAS AND ELECTRICITY CONSUMERS
The Essential Services Commission (ESC) is launching
a campaign to educate Victorians about the choices available to consumers
with their gas and electricity suppliers.
The Nationals Member for Benalla, Bill Sykes reminds
people that this choice has been available for some time but some people
may not be aware of the choices or do not understand how to exercise that
choice.
Dr Sykes said, “There are ten different energy
retailers operating in Victoria. The choices available now make it easier
to make the right decision on who can supply your energy needs.”
To choose a retailer for electricity and/or gas is
relatively easy. There a number of steps which will help consumers decide
which particular retailer to use. To work out how much you are currently
paying, ring your retailer and ask for your billing history. Ring other
retailers and ask what plans are available and ask for an ‘offer summary’
which will help you compare pricing plans.
The ‘offer summary’ will help to work out how much
you will pay over twelve months. Ask if there are any concessions,
discounts or special offers and payment options as well.
Dr Sykes concluded, “These choices will enable
Victorians to more easily choose an energy plan that suits their needs.
“More information can be obtained from the Essential
Services Commission on (03) 9651 0222 or by visiting the ESC website at
www.esc.vic.gov.au.”
