FUNDS AVAILABLE TO IMPROVE BOATING SAFETY

The Nationals Member for Benalla, Bill Sykes, has encouraged community groups to apply for funding through the Boating Safety and Facilities Program to help improve boating safety on the region’s waterways.

Dr Sykes said, “The program will allocate more than $5 million towards recreational boating safety programs and recreational boating facilities throughout Victoria”.

“The program will fund a range of initiatives including boating safety education and training, search and rescue vessels, equipment and training, navigation aids, signage, boating facilities and community harbours.”

Dr Sykes concluded, “The Nationals are extremely serious about safety on Victoria’s waterways and I encourage boating, fishing, community groups, search and rescue organisations, local waterway authorities and councils to apply for the grant-based funding.

The closing date for applications is 16 August 2006.

Application forms can be obtained from Dr Sykes’ electorate office at 2/55 Carrier Street, or by phoning 5762 2100. More information is also available at www.marinesafety.vic.gov.au.
