CALL FOR STUDENT BUS SHELTER AT GLENROWAN

Parents of Glenrowan students who attend secondary school in Wangaratta have approached Bill Sykes, Member for Benalla, requesting his help to have a bus shelter constructed near the Glenrowan Primary School.

This week Dr Sykes met with John and Dianne Johnstone and Justin Scholz, Rural City of Wangaratta Councillor at Glenrowan to discuss options for funding the bus shelter.

Dr Sykes said, “I agree with the need for a bus shelter and I have spoken with the Department of Infrastructure who advised that some money is available.

“To get the project moving, parents need to gain the support of the secondary schools and the Rural City of Wangaratta. Then there needs to be a joint approach to the Department of Infrastructure to choose a suitable site for the shelter and work out construction costs and funding.

Dr Sykes concluded, “If parents and the community are able to contribute either financially or with payment in kind then I believe the project will proceed and local secondary school students will no longer have to endure the extremes of weather as they wait for the school bus”.
