SYKES – WATER CARTAGE REBATES STILL AVAILABLE

Bill Sykes, The Nationals Member for Benalla reminds rural water users that in during this dry period, carted water rebates are available to concession card holders to offset the cost of household water.

In the past, households were only eligible for one payment per year, irrespective of the amount of water carted.

However in January of this year, The Nationals were successful in persuading the Bracks Government to give consideration to Rural Victorians in granting the extra rebates.

Dr Sykes said, “The Carted and Non-Mains Water Rebate is available to assist households who buy non-mains water for domestic usage, for example in refilling rainwater tanks.

“Eligible households can now receive up to three payments each year; rebate amounts will depend on how much water is purchased, for example if residents spend $120 to $399 per year, this will attract a rebate of one payment of $85, if a household spends $680 or more, then up to $255 can be granted as a rebate”, Dr Sykes continued.

Dr Sykes concluded by saying, “Forms for applying for the rebate are available from my Office (PH 5762 2100), or further information can be obtained by contacting the Department of Human Services on 1800 658 521.”
