SYKES – RECREATIONAL FISHING GRANT PROGRAM

The Nationals Member for Benalla, Bill Sykes is encouraging applications to be made for funding under the Recreational Fishing Grant Program 2005-6.

Dr Sykes said “Funding is available through the program to improve recreational fishing in Victoria.”

“Funding will be given for sustainability and habitat improvement programs; recreational fishing access and facilities; research into recreational fisheries; and education, information and training on recreational fisheries.”

Dr Sykes supports the initiative of the Program and thinks it is a great opportunity for local incorporated, statutory and government bodies and registered companies to apply for funding. The program is also open to applications from individuals and associations with the support of their clubs, local councils, Catchment Management Authority or VRFish.

“We have so many excellent fishing venues in North East Victoria, Lake Mokoan, Lake Eildon, the King and Ovens Rivers not to mention all of our other creeks and streams. It would be great if some local bodies made applications for grants under this program to enhance their local recreational fishing areas,” Dr Sykes concluded.

Applications for fish stocking projects close on 13 January 2006, all other applications close on 28 February 2006.
