YOU’VE GOT WHAT IT
TAKES “WEARY” DUNLOP AWARDS
The Nationals Member for Benalla, Bill
Sykes, is pleased to announce the You’ve Got What It Takes “Weary” Dunlop
Award is again being offered in our Primary and Secondary schools this
year.
“Last year I initiated the You’ve Got What
It Takes “Weary” Dunlop Award to recognise and award students who have
demonstrated persistence and resilience to overcome challenges and achieve
academically, socially, culturally, in the sporting arena or in another
field of endeavour,” Dr Sykes said.
“I was extremely pleased with the success
of the You’ve Got What It Takes “Weary” Dunlop Award in 2004, the smiles
on the faces of the young winners clearly highlighted their pride in their
achievements and that is exactly what I was hoping the Award would
achieve.”
The You’ve Got What It Takes “Weary” Dunlop
Award honours young people who like “Weary” Dunlop, have shown persistence
and resilience, along with compassion, humility, friendship, forgiveness,
courage, leadership and integrity.
“It is an award to acknowledge the
achievements of battlers and to encourage them to continue achieving their
personal goals.”
Each school’s successful student will
receive a You’ve Got What It Takes “Weary’ Dunlop Award Certificate and
will either attend morning tea with Dr Sykes and their family at
Parliament House or go to a Brisbane Lions football match with Dr Sykes
and their family in Melbourne.
Last year 5 recipients and their families
attended a tour of Parliament House and had morning tea there, and 9
recipients and their families went along to a Brisbane Lions game in
Melbourne.
“I am looking forward to receiving the
nominations for the You’ve Got What It Takes “Weary” Dunlop Award and to
presenting the Awards to the successful nominees,” said Dr Sykes.
